Day 25. Elohim

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.(Genesis 1:1-4)

The very first name the Lord uses to describe Himself is the name Elohim. Being the first name of God makes it vitally important that we understand the truth found in this magnificent name. This name is used over 30 times in Genesis chapter one alone and 2,750 times in the Old Testament. Every time the English word God is mentioned in the Bible (KJV), it refers to ELOHIM - our Creator.

The glorious truth is that Jesus Christ Himself is Elohim, for the Bible tells us that “….by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible…” (Colossians 1:16). Elohim created us by His power and then put Himself in a covenant (promise) relationship with us through the blood of His covenant (Hebrews10:29).

What a beautiful truth to keep us grounded. The creator of this beautiful universe has a desire to be in relationship with you and me. He designed and created us to glorify Him and worship Him, so it makes sense to pay homage to the one who blew his breath into our frail bodies. The next time you praise him, remember that he is your creator and He desires the essence of who you are to connect with the essence of who He is… Elohim.

Prayer: Lord, you are the great God and creator of the universe and yet you chose to give us your word with great promises to live by. You have created us to worship you and glorify you and we take on a posture of adoration towards you and the essence of who you are. Please remind us that it is you, who have made us into a living being, and we are to love you for who you are… Elohim.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
